John Hawkins was the first of two known sons of Joseph Hawkins 1665 – 1726 and Elizabeth Griffith 1675 – 1752. His known siblings were: Ruth Hawkins 1695 - 1724; Sarah Hawkins 1698 -1748; Jimma Hawkins 1716 - 1717; Elizabeth Hawkins 1719 - 1810 and Augustine Hawkins 1721 – 1808.

John Hawkins in the Maryland, Marriages, 1634-1777 confirms that John Hawkins married Mary Simkins on June 12,1733 in Baltimore, Maryland. From their marriage Mary gave birth to the following known children: Pricilla Hawkins 1732; John Hawkins 1736 – 1799; Elizabeth Hawkins 1738 – 1738; Moses Hawkins 1742 – 1742; Rezin Hawkins 1743 – 1843; Ruth Hawkins 1746; Thomas Hawkins 1748; Joseph Hawkins 1750; William Hawkins 1750 – 1804; Nicholas Hawkins 1753; Charles Hawkins 1755; Austin Hawkins 1757; Rebecca Hawkins 1758 – 1858 and Calib Hawkins 1761 – 1839.

By 1750 John owned 160 acres of the Mount Organ and Simpkin addition and 114 acre at Isingley's Glade.

In 1776 Volunteers organized the 5th Regiment of the Maryland Militia in Queen Anne's County Maryland to aid the war effort. John Hawkins joined as a Lieutenant, and advanced to Captain under the command of Colonel William Richardson.

Before Mar 1, 1778, John subscribed to the Oath of Fidelity, an oath renouncing the King of England and pledged allegiance to the revolutionary government of Maryland.

Some time in 1779 death claimed Johns beloved wife, Mary Simkins Hawkins. He had her buried in an unknown grave where she "Rests in Peace."

On Jan 1, 1781 John retired from service, as a Capt., on Jan 1, 1781 because of ill health.

The Millennium File for John Hawkins confirms that John Hawkins spirit return to God his maker on August 13, 1790 in Anne Arundel, Maryland. The final resting place where his body "Rests in Peace" is in the Buckland Cemetery, Gainesville, Prince William County, Virginia, USA.
