He was born on September 25, 1919, in Enterprise, Al to the late Zennie Omar and Martha Victoria Belcher. He married Mary Ida Riley on October 12, 1940. He moved to Auburn in 1941 after accepting a position at The Extension Service. He later became the manager of the Poultry Research Farm at API (Auburn University) in the Poultry Science Department.
