Claude Curran Miller is the son of Henry J. Miller and Margaret Louise "Maggie" Mix. He had blue eyes and when younger, had dark hair. He was quite handsome. He believed in getting a good education and graduated from New Salisbury High School in 1917 and attended New Albany Business College. He served in the United States Navy during World War I from his enrollment on 14 June 1918 to his honorable discharge 24 May 1919. He served aboard the U.S.S. New York and while serving contracted the killer influenza, and was hospitalized in Edinburough, Scotland. A Grey Lady requested permission to treat Claude and devote all her time to him, hoping he would improve. His recovery was slow, but eventually he recovered completely. His rate at discharge was Seaman 2nd Class. He married Ruth Beatrice Pate in Corydon, Harrison, Indiana on 14 Feb 1920. They had two children: James Henry and Ruth Jean Miller while living in New Albany. Around 1939 or 1940 Claude and Ruth moved back to Harrison County onto a farm Claude purchased on what is now Turley Road. After retiring in 1961, he and Ruth moved to their home in Clearwater, Florida. Claude died while he and Ruth were in Corydon on one of their visits to their children.
