Walter M. "Pete" Sosbe, 84, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South, in Greenwood.

Born Jan. 12, 1921, in Shelby County, he was the son of Walter and Nellie (Bausback) Sosbe. He married Mildred Purtlebaugh on Aug. 14, 1946, and she survives.

Other survivors include five sons, Tom (wife, Jan) Sosbe, of Deltona, Fla., and Jerry (wife, Sally) Sosbe, Tony (wife, Elaine) Sosbe, Brian Sosbe and Tim Sosbe, all of Shelbyville; one brother, Charles Sosbe of Freeport, La.; three sisters, Mary Brokering, Elnora Imel and Ida Parrott, all of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Mr. Sosbe was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He retired from Bausback Fertilizer Co. in 1985 as a heavy-maintenance mechanic.

Mr. Sosbe was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and National Rifle Association.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Chris LeBaun officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
