T. J. ACHESON DEAD
Thomas J. Acheson, and early settler of Lyon County, died Saturday at the home of his son, F. I. Acheson, in San Diego, Calif., where he had lived for several years.
Thomas John Acheson was born in County Donegal, Ireland, February 28, 1837. He came to the United States with his parents in 1841. He spent his boyhood in Lima, LaGrange County, Indiana, where he learned farming and stock raising.
Mr. Acheson was married October 1, 1863 to Miss Lucina M. Packard, in Sturgis, Mich. In 1869, he came to Kansas and bought 120 acres of raw land on Allen Creek, 4-1/2 miles north of Emporia. In 1875 he turned his attention to livestock and increased his holdings by buying a 2,000 acre ranch in Greenwood County. He moved to Emporia in the spring of 1881 and built a house at 905 State Street, where the Acheson family lived until 1912 when Mrs. Acheson died.
Mr. Acheson was one of the founders of Citizens Bank in 1886. He was vice-president of the bank many years. He is survived by three sons, Dr. F. I. Acheson, San Diego, Calif.; Nelson H. Acheson, of Des Moines, Wash., and Thomas J. Acheson, of Seattle, Wash.
