Roy was born in Danville, a son of James H. and Lura Butler Burgoyne. His brothers and sisters were Otie May Harden, Orrie J. Burgoyne and Leona Bell Smith. He married Mary C. LeCount and they were the parents of Phillip and Lelia Burgoyne. Mary Burgoyne passed away in 1929. He married Clara Compton in 1932.
Roy was a florist for 46 years, former member of the county board of supervisors, and former Georgetown mayor. He established the Burgoyne Floral Shop in 1909, and was later joined in the business by his son and grandson.
He was a member of the Central Christian Church of Danville, Russell Lodge 154, AF&AM of Georgetown, member of Danville Consistory and Modern Woodmen of America Lodge.
He passed away at his home in Georgetown.
