Steve Ryland was born in Stockton, California Nov. 9, 1916 to Hawksbury Ridgeway Ryland and Lola Merle (Stevens) Ryland. He cherished a wonderful 63 year long marriage to the love of his life, Lily V. (Huber) Ryland, who predeceased him.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 558th Air Warning Battalion in India and Burma as a radar operator.
He had a great zest for adventure and built and sailed his own sailboats. He loved to fly antique and experimental aircraft, hike, camp, windsurf, build and fly radio controlled model planes, and pan for gold. He built his own homes and could design and create just about anything. He held several patents for inventions. He loved music and could play several instruments.
