John Edwin Williams ((March 21, 1928 - October 2, 2006), 78, of Suffolk, Virginia passed away at home October 2, 2006. He was a native of Nansemond County and retired as a field administrator for Tidewater Construction Corporation.

John was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and the Baraca Sunday School Class. He also served as a deacon and had numerous other board memberships. He was a member of the Suffolk Masonic Lodge #30, Scottish Rites, Khedive Shrine, Provost Guard, the Suffolk Shrine Club, the Franklin Shrine Club and a dedicated driver for the Khedive Roadrunners, Khedive Hospital Transportation Unit.

John was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the WWII, and was the son of the late Lester Joyner Williams and Moses Hugh Williams. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth W. Williams, and his sister, Helen W. Gardner.

He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Doris Hurley Williams, of Suffolk, VA; step-daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Kenneth Griffin of Suffolk, VA; step-sons and daughters-in-law, George “Bucky” Hurley, III, and Kay Weaver Hurley of Suffolk, VA, Keith and Becky Hurley of Richmond, VA; 5 step-grandchildren, Laura Hurley, Heather and Chris Hurley, Kyle and Mary Shannon Griffin; sister, Alma Williams Nance of Franklin, VA; nephew, Robert Rawls Nance and his wife Brenda of Franklin, VA; 2 great nephews, Jeff and Chris Nance.

A Graveside Service in Holly Lawn Cemetery was held October 5, 2006, with the Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. The burial service included Masonic Rites.

Parr Funeral Home served the family.
