From the Sutherland (Iowa) Courier 16 Apr 1897 p.-5

"W. M. Bunce's father was buried in

the Sutherland cemetery yesterday. A

large number of Calumet people attended

the burial."

-The elder Rev Bunce died in Kansas and was returned to Sutherland, Iowa for burial with his second wife, Salina Ann, and nearer his surviving family.

-----

Married first: Susan Almira Stage in 1840. She might be the daughter of Robert and Esther Stage of Pennsylvania, later New York. She gave birth to four children prior to her death in 1850. The first and last died as infants; her resting place and that of her babies have not been identified here as of this date of publication, but they were possibly interred in Wisconsin.

-----

Update: 19 Feb 2022: After decades of research I learned that Ms. [Susan] Bunce died at the home of Reverend Sage around the time of the death of his son Georgie Sage who is interred at the cemetery, per the Reverend's autobiography.

-----

Alfred R Bunce 1843 – 1843

William Carvosso Bunce 1844 – 1900

Wayland Melanthan Bunce 1847 – 1930

Willet W Bunce 1849 – 1850

----

Married second: Salina Ann Dibble in 1851. She bore two of his children before passing away in 1891:

Alice P Bunce 1851 – 1856

Adelbert P Bunce 1854 – 1855

----

Ella was received into their home as a young girl.

Ella D (Leonard) Bunnell 1856 – 1931

Salina's first two children died when they were still toddlers, and while Ella seems to have fared better (she was still living at the age of 13 in 1870), this researcher has been unable to locate records beyond that as of this publication date. It is possible that these babies were also buried in Wisconsin, as the Reverend was still in Wisconsin in 1860. -October 2014 ja

Update October, 2019: Salina's children's graves have been found.

Ella raised a family of at least five children with John Torrey Bunnell of Missouri.

-----

Update February 2020: Ella is not the natural child of The Rev. and Mrs. Bunce. She was raised by them from an early age. This note from a descendant of Ella:

Ebenezer Bunce (139171768)

Suggested edit: Ella Bunce is not the biological child of Ebenezer and Salina Dibble Bunce, although they did raise her from an early age. If you would please reflect this on the memorial. Her parents are Chester P and Sarah Esther Atwood Leonard.

Thank you,

Denise Bunnell, Ella's 2nd great-grandchild.

----

Married third: Mary Emma Barnes in 1893 at the age of 74.

Emma had one daughter, Edith, by a previous marriage with whom Emma lived after the Reverend passed away in 1897. Her father's name was Lewis McKee or McGee.

Edith was reportedly married to one Edward Hurd (b. 1881) of Massachusetts, and he opened his home to his mother-in-law in her sunset years, according to census records. All other reports of death or destination for Ebenezer's last bride are unconfirmed as of the date of this publication.
