Research for Agatha Lorraine Garland and her husband, Thomas Woodrow Bates presented many challenges because of misspelling of names, using both first and middle names as their primary names, and lack of sources until I discovered Thomas' draft registration. It was then that many facts came to light.

=

Even though distantly related, Agatha Lorraine Garland Bates and I share a common relative. Agatha's great-grandmother was Mary Catherine Dearing Corn Garland-Memorial ID 258882876. Mary, in turn, was my 2x great-grandmother. As I moved through the many branches of my paternal tree, I discovered this common thread.

=

Agatha was always referred to by her family in or from Indiana, as Lorraine, Loraine, or Laraine. Thomas' family referred to him as Woodrow, and he even signed his draft registration as "Woodrow". It appears, however, that they were more commonly known, at least on various documents, as Agatha and Thomas in Colorado.

=

Agatha and Thomas were married on 29 May 1937, and from this union they were blessed with at least three daughters, based on the 1950 U.S. Arapahoe County, Colorado Census.
