Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Susie Bennett, Jr. of West Terre Haute, Ind.; Mark and Avis Bennett of Dover, N.H.; and William Thomas and Karen Bennett of Denver, Colo.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Bill Melton of Marshall; Vicki and Mike Noyes of Marshall; and Carol and ; John Turk of Denver, Colo.; three brothers and their spouses, Joseph and Martha Bennett of Rosedale, Ind.; Victor and Virginia Bennet of Marshall; and Alfred and Greta Bennett of Robinson; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary High.
Bennett served as assistant postmaster in Marshall in 1959, and later became Postmaster at that facility. He also served as postmaster at Robinson.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Clark County Post #90 of the American Legion and VFW Post #5975. He- served on the Aurora Mental Health Board of Directors for several years.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19, 1999, at the Marshall Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall School Foundation. Pearce Funeral Home of Marshall assisted with the arrangements.
