Bessie was born to James and Pearlie Taublee . She married George Allen and became the mother of 5 children. Bessie was a hard worker. She was a farmer's wife. She hand sew many quilts. She never had electricity nor running water. She used newspaper for curtains and newspaper for wallpaper. She cooked on a gas stove. Making all her food from scratch. She would wake up every morning and kill and skin a chicken, cut it up, cook it. Have a full spread of food on the table before her family even got out of bed. It would look like Thanksgiving dinner every morning. She told the story of how she worked in the field (farming) and when it came time to give birth. She went off to the side and gave birth, then went back in the field to work. Bessie was known for her being contrary. However, she was a very loving and caring person. Life hardened her. She was a spitfire. She chopped her own wood. Tended her own garden and carried her own water from the spring. She was not one to show her emotions on love and endearment. She could shoot a gun. Killed a bear that came upon her. She may have been short in her 4'10 " inch frame, but she could hold her own.
