He played in the first Test ever, in Melbourne 1877, and he retains the record of being the youngest ever Australian player against England - he was 18 years, 232 days old on his debut. When he died in 1943 he was the oldest Test player at that time and the last survivor of the first Test.
He was primarily a bowler, with best Test figures of 6/78, but he did have a highest first class score batting of 163. He played 19 Tests.
After he retired he made a career in the NSW Public Service, and when he retired in the 1920s he carried on in his legal practice till his last years.
