Ora E. Colyer was the daughter of John F. Colyer 1851 – 1901 and Nancy A "Nannie" Bennett 1858. Her known siblings were: Ella Colyer 1874 and Ida Colyer 1880.

Missouri Marriage Records, 1805-2002 confirm that Ora Colyer became the bride of Charles A Courtway in a wedding ceremony in Allenville, Cape Girardeau, Missouri on Sept, 26,1892. From this marraige the following known children were born: Claude Colyer Courtway 1893 – 1976; Blanche Alice Courtway 1895 – 1933; Frank Joseph Courtway 1898 – 1976; Irene Elizabeth Courtway 1904 – 1981; Agnes Courtway 1905 – 1906; Dixie "Dix" Courtway 1908 – 1977; Leslie Courtway 1911 – 1912 and Preslie Courtway 1911 – 1911.

The 1900 census revealed that Ora and Alex owned their home in Hubble, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Alex was working as a Livery Man. Ora had given birth to 8 living children in 13 year.

In the 1910 census, Ora and Alex were still living in the house that they owned in Hubble, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Alex's work was the same. Their home was now debt Free.

Nov. 5, 1918 was a sad day for Ora. Her beloved Alex's spirit had returned to God, his maker. A burial plot was selected for his burial at the Jackson Cemetery, Jackson, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. Ora's dear Alex now "Rests in Peace" near the three babies that they lost.

In 1920 the census disclosed that Ora and Dix were living together on Rodney Street in Allenville, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. An obituary for Ora told that following Alex death that she was the matron of Allen Hall of the State College from 1920 to 1922. She then moved to Los Angles, CA and remained until 1948

In the 1930 census Ora was listed as a servant in the home of Attorney and Mrs. Arthur C. Hunt at 183 So Windsor Blvd. in Los Angeles California. She was employed by them at the time of the 1940 census, also.

Her obituary also told that she returned to to Allenville. While in Allenville she was an active worker in the Baptist Church and taught Sunday School.
