Ida (Teske/Matthewson) Alexander (1897-1978) was born in Salem Township, McCook County, South Dakota. At age 18, in 6 May 1915 in Sious Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, Ida married Charles Albertie "Bert" "Charlie" Matthewson, Sr. (1881-1969). Bert was 33, and from Achilles Township, Rawlins County, in northwest Kansas. Their two children were Charles "Chester" "Chuck" Albert Matthewson, Jr. 1916-2006) and Mildred (Matthewson) Violette (1919-2011).

In about 1924, Ida no longer wanted to be a mother and demanded they give away their two children, Wishing to save his marriage and protect his children, Bert left their children in the care of their maternal grandparents, and the couple moved to Achilles, Rawlins County, Kansas, near Bert's siblings and mother. Soon after, though, Ida abandoned the marriage and left for Chicago.

Bert, who'd promised his children they would come to live with him, brought his children to Achilles when they were old enough to look after themselves. Chester came ca. 1930, and Mildren came in 1931, around age 12.

At about age 16, Mildred married and moved to Nebraska. Chester and Bert moved to Illinois; Bert tried to convince his wife to return to the family. Eventually, he moved to Nebraska and granted his wife the divorce she sought. Chester remained in Illinois, where he married and raised his children.

On 9 September 1932 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, Ida married Hoyte F. Alexander (1907-1996), 10 years her junior,. The following year, when Ida was 36, they had one child, Berniece (Alexander) Corbin (1933-1995). Hoyte worked for 40 years for Northwestern Railroad in Chicago.

In her later years, Ida tried to repair her relationship with her two older children, but the cruelty with which she abandoned them was too great an injustice and they had little to do with her. Ida remained married to Hoyte, and maintained a relationship with her daughter, Berniece. The family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Later, Ida and Hoyte moved to Pinellas County, Florida, where Ida died in 1995 and Hoyte died in 1996.
