Dr. Doty, 65, Dies At Home

Jefferson Native Was Butler, Pa., Minister

Rev Dr. Robert Westley Doty, a native of Jefferson, died very suddenly of a heart attack at 4:45 o'clock Thursday morning at his home in Butler, Pa. Since he has never suffered with heart trouble befor and had apparently been in good health, his death came as a distinct shock to his relative and many friends in this section.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abner Doty, Dr. Doty was born August 23, 1876. He graduated from the Boy's High School in this city and then entered Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pa. Upon his graduation there he began his training for the Ministry at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg.

He took his first charge in 1902 at Kriders Lutheran church near Westminster and on August 14 of that year was married to Miss Mary Alice Roelkey, of Knowville. After ten years there he served pastorates at Cambridge, O., for six years: Rochester, Pa., for ten years and at Butler, where he has been pastor of Grace Lutheran church for 14 years.

Surviving besides Mrs. Doty are a daughter, Louise, at home; one brother, Guy Doty, Pittsburgh, Pa.; and five sisters, Mrs. Samuel Fetzer, Cleveland, O.; Mrs. Abram Hemp, Jefferson; Mrs. J. Randolph Grove, Frederick; Mrs. Edgar Feaster, Walkersville, and Mrs. Claude Hargett, near Frederick. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Church in Butler Saturday afternoon at one o'clock conducted by the president of the Pittsburgh Synod. Rev H. Reed Shepfer, S.T.M. The body will be brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hargett that evening and final services will be held there at one o'clock Sunday afternoon. Rev. Dr. Amos J. Taver, Pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran church will officiate. Interment will be made in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
