Hardin--Philip Isac Keasling, 68, of Lodge Grass, a retired coal mine operator, died of cancer in a hospital here Sunday at 7:30 p.m. He had been in poor health since 1941.

He was born Oct. 18, 1885, in Ollie, Iowa, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Keasling. He married Katie Messerschmitt at Martinberg, Iowa, Aug. 5, 1908. They came to Montana in 1917 and farmed on the Crow Indian Reservation until 1926 when he operated a coal mine in Big Horn County on Davis Creek in the Wolf Mountains.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Harold and Arla of Lodge Grass; three sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Little Brown Church in Lodge Grass Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Roland Marsh will officiate and burial will be in the Lodge Grass Cemetery.
