"George E. Dillon, veteran of two wars and first commander of Sylvester S. Payne Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, of this city, who died late yesterday after a brief illness, will be buried with military honors Saturday morning from his late residence, 7 Homestead avenue.
Payne Post, of which Mr. Dillon was an organizer, will have charge of the funeral. A requiem high mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, Potter avenue, and burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery.
Mr. Dillon, who was 66 years old, served with the 15th Infantry in Cuba and as a first lieutenant with the 55th and 54th Artillery in the world war, seeing service in France. Upon his return from the last war, Lieut. Dillon became active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and organized many posts throughout the State. He was instrumental in forming Payne Post, of which he was elected first commander.
Up to two years ago he met with an accident, he had been very active in the State department of the V. F. W., twice serving as departmental chief of staff and filling many appointive State offices.
He had been employed by the Providence Gas Co. here for a number of years and in that concern also his qualities of leadership became apparent, organizing and serving as president of an employes' club and forming a band of gas company employes.
He is survived by his widow, Ellen Collins Dillon; two brothers, Frank and William Dillon, both of this city, and a sister, Mrs. William E. Riley."
