Civil War: Company D, 23rd Missouri Infantry
Milton H. Lilley (sic: Lilly) was the son of John Lilly, Sr., and his second wife, Rebecca Reeves Matthews. He was 16 years old when he enlisted as a private at Eagleville, Harrison County, Missouri, on August 24, 1861. He was mustered into Company D, 23rd Missouri Infantry, on September 22, 1861. Private Lilly was mustered out in 1864(?). After the war he married Mary Agnes Wharton (born Indiana 1850) in Missouri on March 17, 1867; by 1880 they were living in Kansas. Milton filed for a Civil War veteran's disability pension in Republic County, Kansas, on June 12, 1880, and received application No. 376,037 and certificate No. 553,229. After his death early in 1899, Mary filed for a widow's pension in McDonald County, Missouri on March 31, 1899, and received application No. 695,091 and certificate No. 485,466.
