Alan C. Messman, 79, of Rockford passed away peacefully November 28, 2014, in River Bluff Nursing Home. He was born December 26, 1934, in Rockford. He married the love of his life Joan Furman on October 7, 1956. Alan lived most of his life in Rockford. He worked a majority of his career for McDermaid Roofing until his stroke in 2001. He was a proud Marine who courageously served during the Korean War. He and Joan were regulars at the Moose Club in Belvidere. Alan was a gifted mechanic who could fix anything. He meticulously restored numerous classic cars which he and Joan enjoyed displaying at car shows and local parades. Joan was Al's caregiver for the first six years after his devastating stroke, until her health declined. Survivors include his son and his wife; granddaughter; two brothers; three sisters; sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife.
