MARCUS, Iowa -- Kendall Earl Grauer, 79, of Marcus died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, with the Rev. Donald Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Earnest & Roethler Funeral Chapel in Marcus.

Mr. Grauer was born July 28, 1922, in Amherst Township, Marcus, the son of Peter F. and Arta W. (Pfaffle) Grauer. He was baptized on Aug. 20, 1922, at Trinity Lutheran Church and was confirmed there on March 21, 1937. He graduated from Marcus High School in 1941. He married Lulu B. Dorr on Aug. 18, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus.

He was a lifelong farmer. He began farming with his father after he graduated from high school. In March 1951 he moved his family to a farm five miles southeast of Larrabee, Iowa, staying there for 26 years. In 1977, he returned to the family farm for another 16 years to care for his 85-year-old father. He inherited his musical talent from his parents and grandfather, Albert Fred Pfaffle. He enjoyed playing the violin with the Little Sioux Symphony for 40 years and singing in the church choir. He also enjoyed traveling and visited almost every part of the United States and central Europe.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Timothy and Julia of Aurora, Colo., and Joel and Sharon of Papillion, Neb.; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Mike Larsen of Polk City, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verle E. Bailey of Oklahoma City, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
