Ms. Tugce Albayrak, of Bad Soden-Salmuenster, Germany, died on her 23rd birthday from injuries received when she defended two teenagers who were being harassed by men. On November 15th, Ms. Albayrak, student at Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, and two friends intervened when several men had cornered two teenager girls in a bathroom at a McDonald’s in Offenbach, near Frankfurt. Outside of the bathroom, Ms. Albayrak was struck by one of the male assailants and fell to the floor. It is unknown She was subsequently placed on life support. Her grieving parents gave permission to discontinue the life support on November 28th. The service for Ms. Albayrak were held outside a mosque in Waechtersbach and attended by hundreds. An online petition to posthumously award Ms. Albayrak for her bravery has been started.
