After leaving the service, he worked for Lazy Boy Furniture in Redlands, California, for many years. Later, he opened his own furniture upholstery business in Cottonwood, Arizona. He was very good at his craft.
He loved camping and fishing. He never married, nor had children, so he took great pleasure in entertaining his nephews and nieces.
