Claflin -- Matthew L. Augustine, 56, died Thursday Nov. 27, 1980 at Wagner, South Dakota. He was born Dec. 13, 1923 at Ellis.

He was a Claflin resident and a school janitor there. He is a former resident of Russell. He was a member of St. Mary Church, Russell, and the VFW Post 6240, Russell.

Survivors include six sons, Lonnie and Gene, both of Russell, Kerry, Jim, Daryl and LaVern, all of Hays; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Kay Reynolds of Hays; seven grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Regina Augustine of Ellis; five brothers, Phillip and a Eddie, both of Hays, Paul and Willie, both of Ellis, and Johnny of Salina; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Greician of Ogallah and Mrs. Theresa Scheck, Mrs. Dorothy Weber and Mrs. Betty Jean Younger, all of Ellis.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, Ellis, with Father Paulinus Karlin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
