AUG. 12, 1923 - NOV. 26, 2014

Dorothy Marie Faber died peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 26, 2014 in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 91. Dorothy is preceded in death by the love of her life and her husband, James Henry “Sandy” Faber of Modesto, CA, by her parents Robert and Cecilia Mechof Modesto, CA, by her sister Marilyn Hudelson of Hughson, CA, and by her brother Robert “Sonny” Mech of Modesto, CA.

She survived by her daughters Diane Webber of Las Vegas, NV, Donna Nelson of Kimberly, British Columbia, Canada, by four grandchildren, and by eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was born on Aug. 12, 1923 in Merced Falls, CA, was raised in Modesto, CA, graduated from Modesto High School in 1941, and earned an A.A. degree from Heald Business College of San Francisco in 1943. During WWII she worked as a civilian employee of the War Department.

Dorothy married Sandy Faber in 1946 while he was stationed in Gulfport, MS, and after he was discharged from the Navy in 1947, they moved to Modesto where Sandy worked at Wiley Electric.

The couple welcomed two children into their home, Diane Marilyn in 1950 and Donna Eileen in 1952. In 1953 together they started Trains ‘N’ Planes as one of the first tenants in McHenry Village and the only toy store and hobby shop in Modesto.

Dorothy and Sandy moved to Lake Tahoe, CA, in 1970 where they lived until moving back to Modesto in 1996. In 2006 Dorothy moved to Las Vegas, NV.

Dorothy was an avid gardener and in her retirement years spent her time tending to a wide variety of indoor plants and outdoor flowers, shrubs and fruit trees. Dorothy was a generous, compassionate, and both loving and lovable person who was passionate about her children and family.

A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at the Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto that will be immediately followed by a graveside interment service at Acacia Memorial Park in Modesto, CA. Pastor Rick Baldwin will officiate the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dorothy’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Stroke Association. The family would like to thank the staff of Summerlin Hospital, Las Vegas, NV for their dedication.
