Mary was born in Cercemaggiore, Campobasso, Italy on March 31, 1925, daughter of the late Frank and Angelina (LaPorta) Zappone. She came from Italy and settled in Waterbury in 1950. She was a homemaker for most of her life, attending to her family's needs. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, and her hobbies included gardening, being outdoors and going to the casino. She was also a member of the Cercemaggiore Club.
She leaves three daughters, Marie Santos of Ontario, Canada, Diane Schiavo and her husband, Vito, of Waterbury, Rose Santos and Joseph Petrrafassi of Waterbury; a brother, Nicholas Zappone of Torrington; four grandchildren, Angela Schiavo, Ashley and Michael Petrafassi and Lacee Sandberg; three step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Wolcott View Manor for the wonderful care she received.
Arrangements: Funeral Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Members of the Cercemaggiore Club will meet at the funeral home at 6 p.m.
