Charlotte R. Behar was born on April 27, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York; daughter of the late Louis and Rose (Cohen) Jablinowitz, died on December 6, 2014 in Northridge, California, aged ninety one.
Charlotte grew up mainly on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where she met and married her husband Louis Behar in September 1942. Two daughters were born, Roberta Iris in October 1943 and Marcelle Linda in August 1947.
Charlotte was a homemaker and Louis was a Certified Public Accountant. Charlotte took pride in how her home was always neat and tidy. Charlotte and Lou traveled extensively in their younger years to such places as Italy, France, and Israel and their annual visits to New York to visit their family. They moved to California and later moved to Sun City West, Arizona where Louis died on June 23, 2002.
Charlotte was known for being very beautiful and always well dressed; she never left the house without her makeup and her hair done- always very proper. Charlotte and her husband Lou were very much in love with one another, always holding hands wherever they went. Charlotte had a strong connection to her faith of Judaism, observing the Sabbath every Friday night, and kept a kosher home always. She was a lover of apple pie and rugelach.
Charlotte remained in Arizona until August 2012 when she moved back to California where she lived until her passing. She was a strong willed and determined woman until her final days when she chose to join her husband Lou.
She is survived by her two daughters, Roberta Greif of Newburgh, N.Y., Marcy Behar of Van Nuys, California; one sister, Marilyn Jablinowitz of Manhattan, N.Y., two granddaughters, Lauren Greif Voorhees of Walden, N.Y., Kathryn Greif of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., three great-grandchildren, Rachel and Matthew Voorhees of Walden, N.Y., and Cameron Greif of Hopewell Junction, N.Y, as well as several nieces and nephews of California and Israel.
She was predeceased by a third granddaughter, Amanda Joyce Greif who passed away on April 3, 1997. She is also predeceased by three brothers, Neil on December 6, 1932, Marvin on October 19, 1999, and Fred on April 13, 2013.
She will be missed by everyone who loved her and has forever left her mark on the hearts of those who knew her. She will always be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Burial will be at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, Arizona.
