Erika Lyn Coy was born May 11, 1969 in Decatur Memorial Hospital, the youngest of six children born to Allan Kent Coy and his wife, Myra Joy (Strader) Coy. She graduated from MacArthur High School in 1987 and then attended Richland Community College, majoring in child care. She was married April 1, 1989 at the First Church of the Nazarene, Decatur, to Matthew Eugene "Matt" Dial. Erika was formerly employed at First National Bank of Decatur, Humpty Dumpty Day Care Center, as a lunchroom supervisor at Enterprise Elementary School, and finally at Kids-N-Fitness Child Care Center. She had enjoyed bowling for many years, mainly at the former Eldorado Bowling Alley. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in early August, 2005 and fought to recover her health for over nine and a half years. To her son, Nic's friends and teammates on the MacArthur Football Team and to her daughter, Lizz's friends and the Elite Energy Show Choir, she was known as "Mama Dial." She loved her kids more than anything and accompanied them to all their school events and activities. She was thrilled to become a grandmother, and welcomed little Sophia Patricia Dial into her heart and arms.
Erika is survived by her husband of 25 years, Matt Dial, their son, Nic Dial and his family, Samantha and 6-month old Sophia Dial, and their daughter, Elizabeth Dial, and her special friend, Chris Lowe, all of Decatur. Also surviving is her mother, Myra J. Coy of Decatur, and the following siblings, David Kent Coy of Decatur, Diana (Butch) Snyder of Decatur, Kevin (Judy) Coy of Barton, Vermont, Karen (Brian) Stock of Moweaqua, Illinois, and Ellen (Howie) Baker of Bismarck, Illinois. Also surviving are her Mother-in-law, Nancy (Dan) McCain of Decatur, and brother-in-law, Justin (Jennifer) Dial and their son, David Dial of Bethany, Illinois. Her best friend of many years, Lynette Hunt of Peoria, a special family friend, Danny Whipple of Decatur, and a special cousin, Stefanie Gardner of Decatur, also survive. Erika was very close to her nieces and nephews: Tony Snyder, Keely Fiore, John Snyder, Andy Coy, Danny Coy, Sam Coy, Rachel Malachuk, Aaron Stock, Megan Stock, Brett Stock, Aimee Younker, Allison Baker, and Adam Baker, plus 13 and another-on-the way in the next generation.
Erika was preceded in death by her father, Allan Kent Coy, her father-in-law, David Eugene Dial, her first cousin, Scottie Strader, and her grandparents.
