Clement Altieri, 97, of 18 William St., South Waverly, Pa., passed away Saturday evening May 22, 2010 at his home.
Born Dec. 23, 1912, in Sassinoro, Italy, he was the son of the late Joseph Altieri and Arcangela Piccucci Altieri.
Clement was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. On Jan. 6, 1949, he married the former Anna Santucci at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in South Waverly, Pa. Clement was employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad in Sayre for 40 years having worked in the steel yard. He was a member of the former St. John the Evangelist Church, South Waverly, Lodge Roma Madre No. 1342 Order Sons of Italy, Sayre and its lifetimers club. Clement enjoyed carpentry work and gardening.
Surviving are: his wife of 61 years, Anna, at home; his daughter, Angela M. Green of Sayre; his son, Joseph M. Altieri and his wife, Patricia of Sayre; four grandsons, Corey Green and his wife, Laura of Maryland, Joey Altieri of Corning, N.Y., Gregg Alteri and his wife, Kati of Pittsburgh, Pa., Matthew Altieri who is a student at Penn State University, State College, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Adam Green; Several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sisters and his brothers-in-law, Margaret and Rocco Appolonio, Sarah and Anthony Alteri; and his brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Phyllis Altieri.
A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Parish, Chemung Street, Waverly, N.Y. with the Rev. Vincent Langan as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Waverly, N.Y. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Anthony Fund of Lodge Roma Madre, Order Sons of Italy, No. 1342, 301 Desmond St., Sayre, PA 18840 in Clement Altieri's memory.
