Harold Avery Martinson, 84, passed from this world April 12, 2006. Martinson was a 58 year resident of Travis County. Born June 13, 1921 in Brady, Texas, he was the son of a Methodist minister that established 17 new churches in Texas.

In World War II he was a Chief Petty Officer serving in maintenance and testing for fighter aircraft for the U.S. Navy.

An employee of The University of Texas for 36 years, one of his accomplishments was the establishment of the restored Santa Rita oil rig which led to UT's vast oil reserves.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Francis "Fay" Collins Martinson of Austin, daughter Carol Floyd and husband Chuck of Kerrville, David Martinson and wife Jo of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Mike Martinson and wife Karon of Throckmorton, Texas and grandchildren Shari Adwers and husband Ryan of Clawson, Michigan; Charles Floyd and wife Courtney of San Antonio; Dr. Lindsay Martinson, Kristen Martinson and Amanda Martinson of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Tiffany Jones of Lubbock, Mikel Martinson and Cole Martinson of Throckmorton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18th at Austin Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Dr.
