Born Nov. 15, 1914, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Virgil C. and Olive P. (Bishop) Singer. He was a lifelong resident of Waynesboro.
He graduated from Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1934.
He had his wife of more than 59 years, Sally (Hartman) Singer, were married Feb. 19, 1938, and moved to the present residence in 1940.
Mr. Singer had been employed by the local newspaper, The Record Herald, as a linotype operator, retiring in February 1977 after 27 years of service.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.
Mr. Singer was a member of Acacia Lodge 586 Free and Accepted Masons, Waynesboro, where he served as lodge master in 1957. He also was a member of the Zembo Temple, Harrisburg; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Harrisburg Consistory; national AARP; and BPO Elks Lodge 731 and the Eagles Club Inc., both of Waynesboro. he was a member of the Waynesboro AAA Club for more than 50 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joseph B. Singer of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Michael P. Singer Sr. of Arnold, Mo.; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Mr. Singer was the last of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by one brother.
