George Vanada

George Vanada, 85, of Newburgh, diedThursday, March 21, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital. He had worked as an aircraft assembly inspector during World War II at Servel of Evansville. He was a mechanics garage owner, had worked as a weigh master for Lemons Sand and Gravel and owned Vanada Electronics Sales and Service.

He was an avid ham radio operator, whose call sign was WA90C0. He was a 50-year member of the Newburgh Masonic Lodge 174. He was a Coast Guard Auxiliary member and a member of Yankeetown Methodist Church. He was also a computer and photography buff.

George was preceded in death by his first wife of 13 years, Ina, in 1956, and his second wife of 34 years, Mary Lou, in 1992.

He is survived by one son, Roger, and his wife, Olivia of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Gertrude Lant of Chandler, Ind.; one brother, Chester of Newburgh, Ind.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.

Services for George will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Simpson
Funeral Home Newburgh Chapel, the Rev. Reno Demuth
officiating, with burial in Bates Hill Cemetery in Yankeetown, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home Newburgh Chapel, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m.
