Marie A. Acker – age 93, of Pomeroy, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Accura Healthcare Center in Pomeroy, Iowa.
Marie Angie Acker was born September 8, 1924, on a farm northwest of Pomeroy, Iowa. She was the daughter of William George and Magdalena (Heide) Acker. She was baptized on October 19, 1924 and received the rite of confirmation on April 2, 1939. After graduation from Pomeroy High School in 1941, Marie attended Tobin Business College in Fort Dodge, after which she worked for several years in Fort Dodge. Later, she returned to Pomeroy to help care for her mother until her death in 1962. In 1963, Marie started working for the C.I. Hersom Construction Company in Laurens and worked there until her retiring on August 1, 1986.
Marie was a member of the United Church of Christ in Pomeroy and at one time, taught Sunday school and served on the church council. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship, serving as Treasurer of the group and also was a member of the Time to Spare Club in Laurens. She enjoyed traveling, cards, biking, puzzles and her church family.
Survivors include several relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law Norman and Marie E. Acker.
