Ervin Eldor Jassmann, 80, Golden Valley, died peacefully with family and friends at his side on May 31, 2009, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday, June 4, at Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, with the Rev. Richard Melchert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. MDT today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Ervin was born to John and Justina (Weger) Jassmann on Oct. 20, 1928, north of Golden Valley. He was baptized in Golgotha Lutheran Church on Nov. 18, 1928, by the Rev. E. H. Vetter. He was confirmed at Dodge St. Paul Lutheran Church July 5, 1942, by the Rev. John Schmierer. Ervin attended rural grade school north of Golden Valley and High School in Golden Valley. Ervin was married to Delma Lang on Nov. 25, 1948, at Golgotha Lutheran Church by the Rev. Doege.

Ervin was on the church council and deacon for both English and German services for 20 years. He was city auditor of Golden Valley from April 1952 to April 1976. He was council man from 1976 to 1980 and the mayor from 1980 until 2009. He started working at Isaak Mercantile in 1949, and in 1954, he bought half share with his sister, Caroline Isaak and the store became Isaak and Jassmann. He also did grain farming on the side. His hobby was restoring antique cars. He also loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Jerel Helling, Golden Valley; one son Michael, Golden Valley; two grandchildren, Chantel and Matt Wickham, both of Fosston, Minn., and Justin and Krista Jassmann, Monticello, Minn.; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Michah, Tyler, Hanna, Ethan, Tia and Jake; one brother, Reinhold and Marie Jassmann, Golden Valley; and one sister-in-law, Ramona and Alvin Kruckenberg, Spokane, Wash.

Ervin was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Delma, on Dec. 2, 2007; his parents; five brothers and four sisters.
