Mary "Polly" Abernathy was the daughter of Miles Abernathy and Nancy Rockett. She married Philip Whisenhunt in 1835 in Lincoln Co., NC. Mary and Philip had thirteen children: Martha Jane, John C., William M., Sarah Emeline, Anna, Catherine, Pinkney, Margaret Sophie, Daniel Ausburn, Amanda Levina, Susan Elizabeth, Barbara Alice, and Dovie Adeline.

There is no record of Polly's death, but 1880 was the last time she was listed in the census.
