Walker Moncure had an Indian trading post in Busby Montana. It was here that he became a friend of Two Moons, a Chyenne Chief, who participated in the Battle of Little Big Horn.
Prior to Two Moons death, he gave Moncure some artifacts from the actual battlefield, along with a manilla envelope.
The 7th Calvary was supposedly carrying payroll for the soldiers. There is speculation that the Indians may have ended up with that payroll, in bulk or from the soldiers bodies, if they had already been paid by Custer. Inside the Manilla envelope was supposedly a map with directions to where that cache was located.
Eventually Moncure built a monument to Two Moons and the artifacts and map were placed within. This monument is on Hwy 212 near Busby. Later a woman who wished to write an article was shown inside the monument and she said that she actually saw the artifacts and envelope, however was not permitted inside. Some time after her article was published the contents of the monument were robbed. It is thought that they were taken by the Indians as Two Moons had indicated that after 110 years that the envelope was to be opened. If the payroll was found it was to be used to the betterment of the Indians.
Moncure purchased over the years 1100 acres of land near Busby
He ended up in California, but made yearly trips back to the Busby area.
While doing roof repair on his home at the age of 88 years, he took a fall, which resulted in a broken hip and died from complications of that soon afterwards.
