Wilma Catherine Wessel, 90, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away April 4, 2006.

Mrs. Wessel was born Wilma Catherine Voss on Nov. 7, 1915, in Millard, Neb. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray H. Wessel, in 1936. They had three sons. The family left Nebraska for Corpus Christi, Texas, three weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, at which time Mr. Wessel went to work in civil service for the defense industry. The family moved to the Los Angeles area, where Mr. Wessel continued working for the defense industry from 1942 to 1946. Mr. and Mrs. Wessel owned R.H. Wessel Co., starting the business in Burbank in 1946 as Wessel Sheet Metal. Wilma worked side by side with her husband as the bookkeeper and office manager. After residing in Burbank for 20 years, the family moved their home and business to Camarillo in 1966.

Mrs. Wessel was a Camarillo resident until 2000, when she moved to Brighton Gardens, an assisted-living facility in Yorba Linda, Calif., where she resided until her death.

"Willie," as her friends called her, was active in Order of the Eastern Star and women's clubs, and was a volunteer and was on the board of Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was a member of Mount Cross Lutheran Church of Camarillo. She loved life and was blessed with a long one.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ray, who passed away in 1997, and her eldest son,Harold LeRoy Wessel , who passed away in 1993.

She is survived by her sons Larry Wessel of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Bill Wessel of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters-in-law, Sandy, Judy and Jacquie; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15, with a chapel service to follow at 11:30 a.m., in the Chapel of the Islands, Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo. Burial will follow in the park.
