Funeral service for Lou Warren Cotney, 92, born December 8, 1920, of Oxford, will be today, November 17, 2013, at 3 p.m. at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Clarence Denney and Jim Harrington officiating. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 12:30-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Lou passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

A native of Tallapoosa, Georgia, Lou was a graduate of Tallapoosa High School. She had been a resident of Cleburne and Calhoun Counties for most of her life and had also resided in Childersburg for 19 years. Lou was a former employee and retiree of General Electric and was retired from Anniston Army Depot. She was a Sacred Harp singer, an avid traveler, having been to 64 countries and all 50 states, an AARP member and past member of NARFE. Lou was a member of Greenbrier Church of Christ and was an active member of the senior citizens group in Oxford where she enjoyed attending the aerobics class.

Lou is preceded in death by her husbands, William Alton Warren and Jess Cotney; grandson, Steven Warren Battles; sister, Irene Mitchell Willoughby; and brothers, Lester Mitchell, Arthur Mitchell and Glen Mitchell.

Survivors include her two daughters, three sons, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews.
