Bernadette C. Hoolihan was born and raised in Grand Rapids, where she graduated from high school. She attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Duluth. She worked at the Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids and did private nursing work in the Grand Rapids area. She entered the U.S. Indian Service, serving reservations in Montana, Wisconsin and Minnesota for several years. Later, she received her degree as a public health nurse from the University of Minnesota and spent 25 years as school nurse for Independent School District 316 in Coleraine. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Rapids and was a member of the Third Order of Lay Carmelites.

She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Fider, Duluth, and Gertrude Hoolihan, Grand Rapids; and two brothers, Daniel and James Hoolihan, both of Grand Rapids.

Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Catherine (Scollard) Hoolihan; five brothers, Sherman, Jerome, William, Matthew and Theodore; and two sisters, Mary Beaudry and Eleanor Beckfelt.

Funeral: Saturday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Burial: Itasca-Calvary Cemetery.




Mrs. Hoolihan was our school nurse, the entire time I was in school. From K-12th grade. I remember her as being very kind, and sort of grandmotherly.She was probably only in her 50's when I first met her! Funny how kids see people!
