Fran was born to Philip M. Schnabel and Angeline S. Shackleford Schnabel.

Frances was a lifelong valley resident. After graduating from Lewiston High School in 1938 she attended one year at Lewiston State Normal School. She and a friend Ellen Wagner, traveled to Winona, Ind., to attend the International School of Photography at Winona Lake. The two then traveled to 28 states and parts of Canada on a Greyhound Bus. Fran worked for Paul Engstrom at Engstrom's Studio before opening her own, Fran Rader's Studio in Lewiston taking family, group, wedding and senior pictures. Children were her favorite. She retired in 1987.

Fran married I. Robert Rader and had two boys, Bob and Leo. They were later divorced.

She married Don Mathison, they were later divorced.

She then married Larry Stumbaugh in 1982. He passed away in 1989.

Fran was an accomplished photographer, sculptor and painter. In 1994, she suffered a stroke affecting her right side so she taught herself to create left handed. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Chapter 742, Malac Temple #55, Soroptomist's, P.E.O. Chapter B.R., Valley Art Center. She also volunteered at Lewis-Clark Center for Arts and History.

Fran was preceded in death by her father and mother; husband, Larry Stumbaugh; brother, James Schnable and his wife, Elaine; and step-son, Dick Stumbaugh.
