He was the only brother of College rector Thomas Kennedy. He entered the North American College in 1899, and was serving as student choirmaster in 1903. In 1905, before he could finish his theological course, he suffered a physical breakdown that made it impossible for him to finish his studies. He returned to the United States, where he convalesced. As soon as he was better, however, he could not be dissuaded from returning to the College, where he suffered a recurrence of his illness, and he died on January 9, 1908, only two weeks after his elder brother's consecration to the episcopate.
