Hon. George W. Lane, Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Alabama, died at the Galt House in Louisville, on the 12th instant. Upon the evacuation of Hunsville, Ala., last year, by gen. Buell, Judge Lane who had become obnoxious to the rebels by his firm and outspoken loyalty, took up his residence in Louisville, and there awaited his family for the the time to come when he could return home and enjoy domestic and public life, in the midst of his old friends, and under the protection of the flag of his country. This has been denied him; and, we doubt not, was the most poignant regret he entertained when he died. We have known Judge Lane from our earliest boyhood. He was an honoable, high-minded gentleman, a sincere and true-hearted friend, a jurist of eminent attainments, and a patriot worthy of the confidence of his country.
