She was born Dec. 14, 1936 in Louisville, to the late Raymond H. “Ray” and Hildegard J. “Hilda” Scherzer .
Shirley grew up on Charles Street in Germantown and was a graduate of St. Vincent DePaul Grade School, Mercy Academy High School. She also attended Jefferson Community College. After spending her first 16 years living on Charles Street, she lived the next 13 years at 1030 Sylvia St., 5 years at 1611 Forest Hill Drive, and most of the remainder of her life, prior to entering nursing facilities, at 2508 Wallace Ave in the Highlands.
She loved attending St. Louis Bertrand Church for Sunday Mass, while also keeping the priests supplied with fresh baked treats from time to time, and making certain that the landscaping around the Church grounds always looked beautiful.
Shirley is survived by her, three sons; John J. “Jay” Comstock, Jr. (Liz), Michael J. Comstock (Therese), and Brian P. Comstock (Allysan); grandchildren, Melissa R. (Comstock) Waters (Stewart), Angela N. (Comstock) Mayo (Bill), Jessica L. Comstock, Michael A. Comstock (Deanna), Cameron S. Comstock (Jessica), and Shelby E. Comstock; great grandson, Little Billy Mayo; and countless lifelong friends including associates and friends from PNC Bank, the former Van Note Supply Co., and her church.
Visitation will be 3-8pm Tuesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Funeral Mass will be 9:30am Wednesday at St. Louis Bertrand Church, 1104 South 6th Street, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
