Stanley Louis Shock, 81, Nashwauk, died on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 in Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, Grand Rapids.
He was born in Nashwauk on July 19, 1924 to Savo and Vasa (Yovetich) Shock. He graduated from Nashwauk High School and then earned his bachelor's degree in teaching from Winona State University. He went on to complete his master's degree in hearing and speech pathology at the University of Wyoming. On July 19, 1975, he married Brenda Olson at St. Michael's Orthodox Church in Hibbing, and they made their home in Nashwauk. He was the speech and hearing pathologist at Greenway High School for more than 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church in Hibbing, the Swan Lake Country Club, Phi Beta Kappa, Nashwauk Senior Citizens, and he was president of the Liar's Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George and Bay, and sisters Donna Bonovich and Sophie Foster.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda, of Nashwauk; two daughters, Melanie (Tim) Marion of Andover, and Sarah Shock of Nashwauk; four grandchildren, Samantha, Madison, and Tyler Marion, all of Andover, and Geno Uhrbom of Nashwauk; a brother, Ugo Shock of Pengilly, two sisters, Rose Passeri and Dorothy Michels, both of Hibbing; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Hibbing. The Very Rev. Bogdan Zjalic officiated. Interment was in Nashwauk Cemetery
Mr. Shock was a gentle, wonderful man. I can still remember him taking time out of his busy schedule to teach an interested little girl sign language. I wasn't a student of his; he only had speech or hearing impaired students. The effect of his taking time with me, has sent me on a life-long love of working with physically and mentally impaired people. Thank you Mr. Shock!
