Harry Alvin Applegate was born March 1, 1925, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas, the son of Cecil Marion and Vinise June (Hillman) Applegate.

Harry first married Phyllis Jean Baird on December 31, 1944, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas. Phyllis was born October 22, 1923, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas, the daughter of Lyle Channing and Verda Mae (Huston) Baird. They had the following children:

1. Roger Lynn Applegate
2. Ronald Wayne Applegate
3. Russell Keith Applegate
4. Harry Randall Applegate

Phyllis died October 2, 1975, in Falls Church, Virginia. Harry then married Patricia Franklin (Sherwood) Clark on June 17, 1978. Patricia was born July 12, 1938, the daughter of James Evans and Etna Brayton (Taylor) Sherwood. She had been married twice previously; a gentleman by the last name of CLark and to Emmett Charles Dye (married 1962, divorced 1970).

Harry died April 26, 1989, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Patricia died October 30, 2009, in Columbia, RIchland, South Carolina.

Harry Applegate of Eureka has been appointed coordinator of distributive education for the Capital Hill high school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for the school year 1950-1951.
Harry graduated at mid-term from Eureka high school with the class of 1943 and entered the navy. After serving for three years he enrolled at Kansas State Teachers college, Emporia, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in commerce in January 1949 He entered graduate study June, 1949 and will receive his Master of Science degree in commerce (distributive education) in July of this year.
A member of Pi Omega Pi national honorary commerce fraternity for two years, he was recently elected a member of Kappa Delta Pi national education honorary society.
Applegate and his wife, the former Jean Baird, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Baird of Eureka, and their three sons, will move to Oklahoma City in July.

Applegate Takes Washington Job
Harry Applegate, specialist in Business and industrial services n the Oklahoma University extension service has resigned to accept a position in Washington D. C. He is the son of Mrs. Vinise Applegate of Eureka.
Applegate will be executive secretary of the Distributive Education Clubs of American, an independent, non-profit corporation. He plans to leave the latter part of November. His job will be to seek scholarships from business and industrial firms for high school students enrolled in distributive educational courses devoted to the study and practice of marketing and retailing.
There are 25 distributive education clubs in Oklahoma. Applegate said, although there are none in Norman. The clubs are organized within the high school and administered by the rural school board.
Applegate came to the University July 1, 1954, from Capitol Hill high school in Oklahoma City, where he was distributive education coordinator for four years. He is married and has three sons. The family residence is in Oklahoma City. His wife is the former Jean Baird, daughter of L. C. Baird of Eureka.
