Myrtle Elizabeth (Elmore) Cox, 100 years old, of Elk City, Kansas, passed away at Eagles Estates in Independence, Kansas.

Myrtle was born on the Salt Creek Farm west of Elk City, Kansas in Chautauqua County, the daughter of Alan Monroe and Martha (Livingston) Elmore.

She received her elementary education at West Liberty School and graduated from Elk City High School in 1924. She began her teaching career in a neighboring rural school after her graduation and continued her education at the then Pittsburg State Teachers College where she attained a Life Certificate. Mrs. Cox obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree from Pittsburg State University.

She married James R. Cox on February 1, 1930. The couple made their home in Elk City. Mr. Cox preceded her in death in 1978.

Survivors include: three sons, Jim Cox and wife Patricia of Manasas, Virginia, Joe Cox of Elk City, Ks., and Jerry Cox and wife Joan, of Flagstaff, Arizona, Seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Carolyn Cox.
