  Alvin G. Dodds, age 91, of Edwardsville, died on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at his residence.
  He was born on March 11, 1914, in West Frankfort, the son of the late Thomas and Lena Fox Dodds.
  He married Evelyn Dodds. She survives.
  Also surviving is a sister (living) Smith; a daughter (living) Stanford; two sons; and five grandchildren.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Thomas, Daniel and Eugene Dodds; and sisters: Bessie Ardueser and Victor Elizabeth Netzer.
  Mr. Dodds graduated from SIU in 1938, receiving his master's degree in educational administration from the University of Illinois in 1946, and his education specialist from SIUE in 1967. He began his teaching career at an elementary school in West Frankfort.
  He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an officer with the Sixth Armored Division in France where he was wounded and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart awards. After returning from the war he became principal of an elementary school, and a junior high school in West Frankfort. He was then elected county superintendent of Franklin County.
  In 1955, he moved to Edwardsville as principal of the junior high school. He served as superintendent of schools in Edwardsville for 19 years from 1957 to 1976. His memberships included the First Baptist Church of Edwardsville, the Rotary Club, Phi Delta Kappa and was on the board of Kids Hope United.
  Funeral arrangements were handled by Saksa Funeral Home in Edwardsville.
