John Leighton "Redman" Middleton Sr., 71, of Elkton, Fla., passed away Dec. 1, 2014. He was born Sept. 12, 1943, in St. Augustine. He was the son of the late Gordon and Gouldie Middleton. He was a 1961 graduate of Hastings High School and from St. Johns River Community College in 1963.

He was a third-generation farmer and was the owner of Fairview Farms. He enjoyed fishing, boating, classic cars and was an avid hunter. He served on the board of directors for the Barnett Bank, Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association and the Hastings Potato Growers Association. He was a member of St. Augustine Rod and Gun Club, Palatka Shrine Club and the Hastings Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Tedra Middleton, son; Leighton Middleton Jr. (Paula); daughters: Gina Povia (David) and Kristy Hobbs (Brian); grandchildren: J. L. Middleton (Taylor Barry); Ashley Middleton; Drew Povia and Brady Hobbs; sister: Martha Lou Daniel (Jim); niece Tanci Monfils (Ron). He was preceded in death by nephew Will Hardin.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday at Craig Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Greg Grant, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Craig Funeral Home. Those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to the Shriner"s Crippled Children"s Hospital or
your favorite charity .
