Donald Matthew Ahles, Sr., 92, Rockford, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born April 20, 1922, in Rochelle, the son of Frank and Lucille (Kelso) Ahles. He was a graduate of New Milford High School. Donald was a Navy Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II. He married Amelia DalCollo on February 14, 1942, in Rockford. She passed away on July 1, 2013. Donald was the plant superintendent at the Rockford Division of Borg Warner where he worked for over 40 years, retiring in 1984. He was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church. He went on the Honor's Flight to Washington D.C. with his son.

Survived by his children, Pam (Mark) Thate of Roscoe, Reverend Donald Ahles of Genoa, and Darla (Dennis) Tritt of Rockford; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rosemary Pinchott.

Predeceased by his parents; 2 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Viola and Donna Mae.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Reverend Donald Ahles officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.

Entombment in St. Mary/St. James Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor's Flight program, 515 Skyline Dr., Fox River Grove, IL 60021 or at www.veteransnetworkcommittee.com or for a memorial brick at Presence Cor Mariae Center, 3330 Maria Linden Dr., Rockford, 61114, or have a Mass said in his name.
