Henry Dionicio Alcones, age 94, of Santa Rosa, CA passed away on December 4, 2014, and joined his beloved wife of 70+ years, Carmen Mendoza Alcones, in heaven. Henry and Carmen were blessed with six children: Violeta Baker, Carmencita Ignacio (Carlos), Gilmore (Gayle), Revelino (Lilia), Virginia Formosa (Michael), and the late Virgilio (Adele), 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. As a young man, Henry joined the Filipino Guerrillas to defend his home country against invasion during World War II. He was captured, became a prisoner of war, and survived the infamous Bataan Death March in 1942, in which thousands of prisoners lost their lives. Henry later joined the U. S. Army and fought in the Korean War. During his military service he was wounded in battle and was awarded the Purple Heart and POW medal. He immigrated to the U. S. in 1960; and his wife and children eventually joined him in Santa Rosa. He worked for many years as a golf course grounds keeper. When he wasn't tending to landscapes at work he was tending to his many farm animals giving his greatest care and attention to his beloved chickens. He also loved a good bet, especially if it involved football. Henry's strength and courage will live on through his devoted family. They will forever be grateful to their patriarch for his many sacrifices and for the opportunities he provided them. Funeral services were held on December 26, 2014, at Holy Angels Funeral Center in Hayward. Interment followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
